In the late 1980s, Berry went to Illinois to pursue a modeling career as well as acting. One of her first acting projects was a television series for local cable by Gordon Lake Productions called Chicago Force. In 1989, Berry landed the role of Emily Franklin in the short-lived ABC television series Living Dolls (I’m not making this up), during the taping of which she lapsed into a coma and was diagnosed with diabetes.
It sounds like Halle was given Dr. Ewen Cameron’s “psychic driving” to turn her into a “living doll”. She was put in a psychiatric insulin coma and electroshocked. A taped message is played into her head for the duration of the coma. She was given so much insulin for such a long time that she developed diabetes. No one knows if psychic driving works. The survivors of Dr. Ewen Cameron’s experiments claim they were reduced to an infant like state and had to learn basic functions all over again.
The trauma may have given Halle MPD (Multiple Personality Disorder) or as it is now known, DID (Dissociative Identity Disorder). In her movie Gothika she is tortured by psychiatrists.
Her new movie Frankie & Alice, both starring and produced by Berry, “is a moving psychological drama based on the harrowing true story of Frankie Murdoch (Berry), a woman suffering with multiple personality disorder in early 1970s Los Angeles.”
