The greatest among you must be your servant.

“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites. You traverse sea and land to make one convert, and when that happens you make him a child of Gehenna twice as much as yourselves.

“Woe to you, blind guides, who say, ‘If one swears by the temple, it means nothing, but if one swears by the gold of the temple, one is obligated.’

Blind fools, which is greater, the gold, or the temple that made the gold sacred?

And you say, ‘If one swears by the altar, it means nothing, but if one swears by the gift on the altar, one is obligated.’

You blind ones, which is greater, the gift, or the altar that makes the gift sacred?

One who swears by the altar swears by it and all that is upon it;
21
one who swears by the temple swears by it and by him who dwells in it;
22
one who swears by heaven swears by the throne of God and by him who is seated on it.

“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites. You pay tithes of mint and dill and cummin, and have neglected the weightier things of the law: judgment and mercy and fidelity. (But) these you should have done, without neglecting the others.

Blind guides, who strain out the gnat and swallow the camel!

“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites. You cleanse the outside of cup and dish, but inside they are full of plunder and self-indulgence.

Blind Pharisee, cleanse first the inside of the cup, so that the outside also may be clean.

“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites. You are like whitewashed tombs, which appear beautiful on the outside, but inside are full of dead men’s bones and every kind of filth.

Even so, on the outside you appear righteous, but inside you are filled with hypocrisy and evildoing.

“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, 17 you hypocrites. You build the tombs of the prophets and adorn the memorials of the righteous,

and you say, ‘If we had lived in the days of our ancestors, we would not have joined them in shedding the prophets’ blood.’

Thus you bear witness against yourselves that you are the children of those who murdered the prophets;
32
now fill up what your ancestors measured out!

Maybe you did not notice that Yeshua ( Jesus ) was ( is ) Jew, only so he can be the Messiah ben David if he is from the lineage. So if you are against Hebrews ( Jews ) you are against him and are just pretender and do not follow him.
What does being against Jews have to do with being against Christ? Christ was the first anti-semite.
Jesus spoke these harsh things against the Jews because of their stubborn un belief, not because of their ethnicity. He would have said the same of any other people who spoke, acted and thought as they did. The regrettful part of the Jewish people is they had the Scrtptures and should have known better…this is the point of it all! Jesus is angry because they will lead others away from Him. At the same time He is also trying to wake them up to bring them back. In the end, every person Jew or Gentile will have to decide what they think of Jesus’ claim to be divine and the savior of the world. Was He a deceiver, was He crazy or was He truly what He claimed to be????

All known historical evidence is that Jesus was far from anti-semitic. From what I have read about the man, written by Jews and Romans around that time, his ‘problem’ was with the talmud (2 talmuds, in fact) which mainly Pharisees had begun writing some 200 yrs before. The Pharisees were begining to place the talmud(s) on an equal par with the Torah, and the original Hebrew Jews obviously followed the Torah and not the Talmud(s) as the latter did not then exist. Still, Jesus was considered to have broken the Torah law by preparing food on a Sabbath. His justification was that the Sabbath was made for man not the other way around. Following the logic of creationism, this makes sense – that the world and all life was created in 6 days and the 7th thus became a holy day of rest. Obviously, a light preparation of food is hardly work, and what God would expect people to go hungry for the sake of not doing a little food prep. Many enjoy & find preparing food to be relaxing. His points seemed to have been that the Pharisees and Saducees of his times were so caught up with the literal following of both the Torah & the talmud(s), even where it was very petty and caused uneccessary suffering (as when he was criticized for healing on the Sabbath). However, Jesus also stated that not an iota would pass from the law (as in the Torah) til the end of the world. He also told a gentile woman “why should I heal those who are not my people instead of my own?” (in so many words – referring to gentiles as dogs(!), and the woman replied that even the dogs can eat the crumbs, so he let her keep the healing). Reading this ancient history is most interesting. That wrong interpretations of Hebrew, Arabic and Greek words have been written in the Christian Bible has of course led to much ignorance. In our language the word ‘lass’ is taken to mean girl or young woman. This word doesn’t imply virginity or lack of virginity. Similarly, the word ‘virgin’ was misapplied to Mary, from a word that simply meant ‘young woman’. There is much more. Too much to go into here. It really is worth reading Josephus, Tacitus etc on Jesus, and why most Jews don’t accept him as messiah as well as Hebrew and Jewish history, and the history of Judah, Judea, the surrounds & various tribes and other peoples. Remember also that nowhere in the 4 Gospels does Jesus claim to be God. In fact, when complimented for being ‘good’ he admonished, saying ‘God alone is good’ (if interpretation is correct). He does not say or imply that anyone worship or pray to him. I believe he would have considered that as blasphemy. He is quoted as saying that if anyone asks of the father in the name of the Son, the father will give what is asked. Did he mean this generally, as in the average fathers & sons in that society? Or soley in regard to himself as the Son and God as his heavenly father? I don’t know but I believe probably the latter. As for St Paul, in his letters to Timothy he says to be obedient to even evil & cruel leaders, and not to argue. What?! There are enough references in the Gospels to Jesus not doing as evil & cruel leaders said to do (the money changers in the Temple who were charging extortionate exchange rates for the only coins that would be accepted by the Preists, for instance). Jesus also agued. Many times. It is clear to me that the writings attributed to Paul are a corruption of the beliefs of Jesus and his contemporary followers, probably politically inspired to get the masses to do as they were told. Thus, much of the new testament is misleading, except probably most (not all) in the 4 gospels – subject to correct interpretation of words and phrases of course. Jesus was definately anti-cruelty, anti-corruption, anti-unholy, anti-talmud(s), anti-saducees and anti-SOME pharisees (he ate and was friends with at least one, in the Gospels), anti-gentile at least to some extent, anti a lot of things. One thing that is 100% definately for sure if the 4 Gospels are accurate enough, is that Jesus (yeshua, joseph, various interpretations) was not anti-semitic. I believe he would be appalled if he were here now and saw all the cruelties carried out by a large number (not all) who have purported to follow him. By the way, I am not Jewish, and do believe in Jesus as the spiritual Son of God and that he is our spiritual Messiah (whether or not we’re Jews). Many gentiles are unaware there are divisions between Jewish beliefs, as there are in Christianity, Islam, Bhuddism and just about every religion. So it also was when Jesus walked the earth. He didn’t throw of Judaism because he followed a particular division.
